The new company, CoOper8, will deliver and manage services for digital collaboration across companies and systems in the energy industry. This will contribute to increased standardisation, efficiency, productivity, and value creation across the industry.

“The energy industry is facing increasing complexity and a maturing Norwegian continental shelf that requires new ways of operating—making collaboration across companies and value chains more important than ever. CoOper8 has been established precisely to meet this need through shared digital solutions that create documented value for both owners and customers,” says Kjetil Hove, Executive Vice President, Exploration and Production Norway, Equinor.

A more efficient ecosystem

CoOper8 will take over and further develop services that have been established through industry collaboration on the shelf, coordinated by Offshore Norge. This includes Material Management services such as EqHub and Virtual Inventory, as well as Project Control Management services such as Schedule Exchange. Bringing these services together in one company under shared ownership provides a predictable path for further use and development.

“To unlock the full potential of the Norwegian continental shelf, we must collaborate more closely and speak the same digital language. Standardization and data sharing are key to reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and building a more sustainable industry. The establishment of CoOper8 will strengthen collaboration across operators and suppliers, creating a more efficient and integrated ecosystem”, says Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP.

The company’s service portfolio will include equipment documentation, virtual and digital inventories, as well as digital exchange of planning data. The deliveries will consist of shared, industry-oriented solutions that enable standardisation, improved data quality, and seamless information flow between stakeholders and systems.

“Long‑term partnerships and stronger collaboration between operators and the supplier industry are essential to ensuring continued success on the Norwegian continental shelf. The establishment of CoOper8 represents an important milestone in this effort by bringing stakeholders together, simplifying ways of working, and creating better conditions for jointly realizing greater shared value creation,” says Torger Rød, COO of Vår Energi.

CEO appointed from Equinor

The establishment of CoOper8 marks an important step toward more structured and targeted digital collaboration on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Going forward, the company will work closely with owners and customers to further develop services in line with industry needs.

“Offshore Norge works to support activities that maintain and improve safety, environment, and efficiency. We see CoOper8 as an important contributor in delivering and managing services for digital collaboration in the energy industry within material management, equipment documentation, and project control,” says Hildegunn T. Blindheim, CEO of Offshore Norge.

Åshild Hanne Larsen has been appointed CEO of CoOper8. She brings extensive experience from the energy sector, as well as from executive roles responsible for IT and digital solutions and is seconded from Equinor.

“With CoOper8, we are building an infrastructure for collaboration and sharing, where expertise, data, and technology are connected across companies. This creates the foundation for new insights, better and faster decisions, and increased competitiveness on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. I truly look forward to being part of this important work,” says Larsen.
